The Master of Arts in Communication, Media, and Performance (CMP) at Governors State University develops vital communication skills, both written and performance-based. The program’s creative problem-solving and research-centered approach is designed to help you find a meaningful career and excel in any field. As a CMP student, you’ll apply these skills across platforms and disciplines through advanced projects that encourage development in your area of personal and professional interests.

In these times of highly competitive markets, organizations need members with the ability to communicate effectively, ethically, and to think critically in order to create change in business, government, media, the arts, and other areas. Balancing academic theory and practical application, our program allows you to go at your own pace, selecting from a variety of topical seminars. Recent courses addressed topics such as: Food, Discourse, & Society; Cultural Analysis of Breaking Bad; Rhetoric of Social Movements; The Digital Mirror; Interpersonal Communication.

With an M.A. in Communication, Media, and Performance, you will be equipped with the skills needed to enter career areas such as advertising, cable television, college teaching, consulting, customer service, human resource development, journalism, media management, media writing, public affairs, public relations, theatre performance and production, TV production and direction, and training. Our curriculum will also prepare you to pursue advanced graduate studies in the communication/media, theatre/performance, and related disciplines.

Delivery Format

Governors State’s 36-credit hour Communication, Media, and Performance M.A. has flexible course offerings with on-campus, hybrid, and online classes. With full-time and part-time options, students decide the pace of their program. On average, full-time students complete the degree in two years.
