在这里学什么?Our partnerships with other departments greatly enhance the Crop and Soil Sciences graduate programs, offering opportunities for tailored research experiences and unparalleled career preparation.
You can choose from several paths, including thesis and non-thesis masters degree programs.
Our graduate faculty are experts in their fields. They also participate in a number of interdisciplinary programs throughout the university that enrich their teaching and mentoring, and in turn, benefit their students.
We’re serious about preparing our graduate students for meaningful careers that have an impact here in North Carolina and around the world.
Students can study toward M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the fields of plant breeding and genetics, plant physiology, sustainable agriculture, crop and forage management, crop chemistry and quality, and weed science. The latter is particularly suitable for working professionals. Strong cooperation with other departments greatly enhances these programs.
These are the program objectives:
1. To guide the graduate education of students preparing themselves for professional careers in research, extension, and academics 2. To provide skills and knowledge required conducting and publishing research and other information to the advancement of crop production and utilization 3. To maintain and enhance the department’s leadership role nationally and internationally
Objective: 1. To guide the graduate education of students preparing themselves for professional careers in research, extension, and academics
Students are expected to develop expertise in applicable concepts, theories, and knowledge concerning crop science Students are expected to communicate knowledge in appropriate publications (e.g. extension, peer reviewed, web-based publications) and through oral presentations (professional meetings, extension events, class-based or distance education presentations) Students are expected to participate actively in professional organizations, becoming members, attending meetings, and showing leadership where appropriate
Objective: 2. To provide skills and knowledge required conducting and publishing research and other information to the advancement of crop production and utilization
Students should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of previous and current research in their field of expertise and the ability to demonstrate that knowledge in a review of the literature Students should be able to recognize research needs in their field of expertise and pose hypotheses related to those nee Students should be able plan and conduct research to address research hypotheses Students should be able to analyze data in statistically sound manner and present the results in a clear and logical approach Students should be able to discuss the support or lack of support for the research hypothesis in a way that effectively documents the contribution of the research to the area of study

Program faculty are expected to be competitive nationally in recruitment of high-quality students Program faculty are expected to provide effective monitoring that encourages timely graduation Program faculty are expected to place graduates in positions in industry, academics, and research
Master of Science (M.S.). The Master of Science in Crop Science is a research-oriented degree requiring a thesis. Advanced study opportunities include weed science, plant breeding, genetics and molecular biology, sustainable agriculture and agroecology, field crop, forage, and turf management and plant physiology and biochemistry.
