专业概况

在这里学什么？

Teachers can have a great impact on the social, personal, and intellectual development of individuals. Their influence stems from a love of learning; a talent for awakening students to new modes of thinking; an understanding of the human development process; and professional skills. A general description of teacher work activities includes: planning courses, instructing students, interacting with parents and administration, and keeping up with developments in the field.

Within the College of Education, there is one degree, which prepare teachers to teach mathematics:

The High School Mathematics Education curricula prepare graduates to teach mathematics at the high school level, grades 9-12.

The Middle Grades Education curriculum prepares graduates to teach mathematics at the middle school level, grades 6-9. The curriculum includes an option for students to also license to teach middle grades science.

Students in High School Mathematics Education Program may specialize in one of the following areas: Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science. Or, they may add a second major (in Mathematics or Statistics) and specialize in Math Education and Mathematics dual degree or Math Education and Statistics dual degree.

Each of the programs for high school or middle school math education includes a general education, professional education, and teaching field (e.g. math) component.
