The program offer on-campus master’s degrees in Human Development and Family Science, and distance master’s degrees in Human Development and Family Science with emphasis areas in Family and Community Services, Gerontology, and Youth Development.

This degree option is available for students interested in the advanced study of human development and family science. Both thesis (MS) and non-thesis (MA) options are offered, but students must petition to write a thesis. The non-thesis option involves a project, internship, or exam.

Requirements for MA in HDFS (36 hours)

Courses are selected from:

Statistics and Research Methods (6 hours) HDFS 8200: Research Methods Any advisor-approved statistics course 7000 level or above Theory (6 hours) HDFS 8210: Theories of Human Development HDFS 8220: Family Theories Diversity (6 hours; additional courses may be taken to fulfill electives requirement) HDFS 7200: Latino Families and Youth HDFS 7300: The Black Family HDFS 7610: Stress in Families HDFS 8087: Poverty HDFS 8300: Advanced Seminar on Multicultural Families HDFS 8610: Remarriage and Stepfamilies HDFS 8630: Gendered Relations in Families Electives (12-15 hours) HDFS 7257: Aging and the Family HDFS 7510: Administration of Programs for Children and Families HDFS 7630: The Process of Divorce HDFS 7640: Interpersonal Relationships HDFS 7720: Child and Family Advocacy HDFS 8012: Family Dynamics and Intervention HDFS 8420: Cognitive Development HDFS 8440: Social-Emotional Development HDFS 8450: Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood HDFS 8640: Family Interaction Or any advisor approved graduate level course

为来自中国的学生设计 Minimum Admission Requirements: Have earned a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Have earned a 3.0 or better GPA in the last 60 hours of baccalaureate coursework (for applicants with less than a master’s degree). Language Requirements: TOEFL Internet-based - 80 (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing - 17 each), IELTS Academic - 6.5 (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing - 6 each), PTE - 59, Cambridge C1 Advanced - 180.
