The Master of Microbial Biotechnology program offers you a unique blend of science and business. We combine real-world bioscience industry projects and internships to give you the experience you need to be successful.

About the MMB Program

We are one of the first and most successful Professional Master's programs in the country. Our program is a unique blend of science and business education with practical training in the biotechnology industry.

Students in the Master of Microbial Biotechnology (MMB) program participate in immersive industry experiences, professional networking, MBA-level coursework, practicum projects, and internships. Our graduates leave ready to tackle challenges and excel in careers in the biotechnology industry.

History of the MMB Program at NC State

Launched in August 2003 by the faculty of the former Department of Microbiology (now the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology), the program was funded in part by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The program and department are units within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The program includes established coursework in the Department of Microbiology, the Biotechnology Program, and the Poole College of Management.
