Course summary

Gain the the skills and knowledge to work at the cutting edge of research and development in the sports equipment industry. Develop a biomechanical and physiological understanding of athletes, enabling you to analyse the athlete-equipment interactions in sport. Have the opportunity to work abroad - with the possibility of Erasmus funding being available for European placements. Enhance your technical, problem-solving and engineering skills and learn to apply them to the sporting environment.

More than ever, the world of sport is intimately connected to new technologies. The global sports equipment industry is valued at £200 billion annually and is driven by new research and innovation. Learn how to use your engineering skills to succeed in this industry.

How you learn

Our course focuses on giving practical experience in techniques relevant to the sports engineering industry. You'll work individually and in groups, learn how to use engineering software and hardware and work on an industry-relevant project. It is led by Dr Simon Choppin, a fellow of the research centre and an associate editor of the Sports Engineering Journal.

There are opportunities to study abroad at one of our partner universities with the possibility of funding through the Erasmus programme (subject to the UK’s continued participation in the Erasmus programme following the Brexit transition period).
