This taught postgraduate degree is comprised of two compulsory modules on research methods; these will provide you with an extensive and detailed knowledge in appropriate research approaches and practices within linguistics and language study.

Assessment

The University is committed to providing timely and appropriate feedback to students on their academic progress and achievement, enabling them to reflect on their progress and plan their academic and skills development effectively. Students are also encouraged to seek additional feedback from their course tutors and lecturers.

Our validated courses may adopt a range of means of assessing your learning. An indicative, and not necessarily comprehensive, list of assessment types you might encounter includes essays, portfolios, supervised independent work, presentations, written exams, or practical performances.

Careers

Students graduating at MA stand a better chance of entering subject?related careers (e.g. publishing, marketing, lexicography), managerial positions in business and/or the public sector. The MA in English Language and Linguistics is a general degree and will prepare students for work in any field in which making sense of large amounts of information, close analysis and precise use of language, designing projects, and writing reports is a core skill. Those students who are teachers or propose to be teachers or academics will find the degree an essential steppingstone to career advancement.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students need a relevant four year Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution with an overall GPA of 2.75 out of 4.0 or 70%, depending on the subject area. For some subjects a GPA of 2.4 (60%) may be accepted.
